A neutral card

Life has been pretty busy and challenging these past few months and I have been missing from the blog. But here I am, back again and hopefully, I can be regular again!

With the Christmas / New year fast approaching, there is a dire need for cards in our household. And of course, I need a number of generic cards - not necessarily in the traditional Christmas colors or images.  So I decided to go neutral with this card.

Very subtle and I like the effect.

A Birthday card for a little girl

My niece is turning three soon ( such an adorable age) and her favorite place on earth is the "Zoo". She loves going to the zoo to look at animals, especially the elephants. So for her birthday card, I decided to bring the zoo to her...or at least as much as I could fit in to my center step card.
If  I could, I am sure I would have fit in some more Magnolia stamps in my card, but I had to stop at six :)

The card is a center step card. The grass is simply hand cut from a green strip of paper. The clouds are also hand drawn, cut and edged with glitter. The sentiment is hand written.

Coloring all these animals and of course, Tilda, was a lot of fun. Do animals blush or not ???? In any case, I decided to give the elephant some rosy cheeks.... but not Miss MuuMuu

The two Tilda images are
Tilda with the Kookaburra
Tilda with a cute lamb

The tag at the farthest, hidden in a pocket, is available for writing personalized messages.

The card does neatly fit in to an envelope for mailing. Surprisingly, with all the different stamps and fussy cutting, it ends up being quite flat!

A quad easel card

Easel cards are fun to make, so I guess a Quad-easel card is four-times the fun?
Fun or not, they definitely are a treat for the eyes once finished. So drum rolls please....here is my first quad-easel card.

I needed to use the Magnolia mini stamps to make this  card. I chose the four images to represent the places we have been or lived in - India, USA, Spain and Japan.

I kept the embellishments to a minimum - the card has too many things going on as is. The easels, each open up to reveal a message/ compliment.

Inside, I used one of my favorite quotes from Winnie-the-Pooh.

Back after a long hiatus

It feels good to be back with a card that I made recently. It is a double tag card, the first one I ever made and the tutorial for the same can be found at Double Tag card. It is a relatively easy card to make though does look rather complicated, doesn't it?

The stamp is Saturated Canary and was a delight to work with. Though, if you look closely ( actually, not so closely will also do), I messed up the coloring near her neck. Remind me never to work in fading light again :(

OF the two tags that can go in to the card, I left one blank for the messages. Now for the tools used part, The flowers are punched out whereas the green buds / flower is a Memory box die.  The stamp " just saying hi" is actually from a long time ago and I am not sure of the manufacturer.

Fancy fold and Christmas....

I remember that one of the first card that I ever posted to this blog was a tri-shutter card and after so many postings, I come back to it again.  The best things about these cards is that they look so complicated and yet so easy to make - just my kind of cards. Anyway, without much ado, here is my newest tri-shutter card

Pretty, ain't it ? The card has my favorite color combination - red and brownish green ( or greenish brown , may be) . And it also has my favorite stamped characters - Edwin and Tilda. I really enjoyed coloring Edwin and am especially proud of the lantern and how the light reflects on his pants.  Also, I kept this card embellishment-free ~ I have been paying too much for postage lately :(
But I think in the case, it works.

The sentiments next to Edwin are from Justrite while those next to Tilda are computer generated.

This is how the card looks completely open. The blank space on the central panel is for a message. The papers are all from DCWV.

A sunburst card

As a card maker, I am not very good at complicated things and complicated instructions. But sometimes it is fun to try new things, so when the design team at ABC Challenges invited me to be their Guest designer this week, I delved in to a new kind of card. The challenge this week is to case a DT card from the past. I chose the sunburst card by DT member Danielle in the ABC 49 challenge

As I had never tried a sunburst card before, I was a bit skeptical on how successful I was going to be. But I am really happy to report that it is so easy. This is what I came up with

I retained the basic pattern while changing it from a Halloween to Christmas celebrations. The papers are all from DCWV and the stamp is, of course, Magnolia Tilda- sitting angel. All the panels are distressed with Tim Holtz vintage photo distressing pad.

The two layered stamps are both from Justrite Christmas collection. I love " The magic of Christmas" stamp and tend to use it way too often :)

The inside is lined with DCWV Christmas collection paper and decorated with the Memory Box dies.

Another one....

As you can see, I am running out of titles for the Christmas card posts...and there are still so many more to go. Sometimes I wish I could be all alone with all my craft supplies and no distractions....Alas...one can only wish.
Anyway, coming back to the card, what is funny is that I worked more on the inside of the card than the outside and you will see in a minute why. It is almost as if the front of the card was an after thought :)
So this is how the inside of the card goes:

The center ornament swings to reveal a different message on the other side. The ornament stamp as well as the sentiment are both from Justrite.

And now for the front....the stamp is Magnolia Tilda ( I seem to be doing Magnolia exclusively for the last few days....hmm..got to do something else soon).

The star on the left corner managed to twist itself just a bit. I did correct it but not before I had taken all the pictures, downloaded them on to the computer and packed away the camera. Once I realized the bent, it was too much of an effort to redo the taking image thing. Like most crafters, I love to create but hate to take pictures :(

Since the inside of the card is all used up, the back of the card has the only place to write a message - though I do think the recipient would not mind.
